VWdot Installation

This guide walks through the setup process for the VWdot device.

1. Unscrew the four screws located on the top of the VWdot. Carefully move the top cover to the side.

2. Attach the antenna to the connector located on the top side of the vwdot. Be sure to tighten the connector clockwise.

Do not use excessive force when tightening to avoid damaging the connector.

3. Feed the sensor cable through the bottom opening of the VWdot. to provide room for the wire lossing the screw for the wire to fit through

4. Securely connect each wire to the appropriate terminal socket on the VWdot, ensuring all connections are tight and properly aligned.

5. Insert the Li-Ion battery, note the plus “+” and minus “-“ signs on the PCB Battery Terminals with the correct polarity.

  • If the battery is inserted with the incorrect polarity, please remove it and wait for at least 3 seconds before re-inserting the battery.

6. After the battery is inserted, depending on the version of the vwdot, a Green LED will stay on for up to 2–3 minutes, depending on the SIM card’s registration with the wireless network and data transfer to the MQTT server. Normally, for the very first time, the SIM card registration may take a long time to process.

7. If the Green LED (beside the Test button) stays on steady with NO BLINKING the entire time and then turns off (after a maximum of 3 minutes), this indicates that the VWdot is operating correctly; otherwise, please refer to Chapter 8 for the status description.

8. When the VWdot setup completes, it will automatically upload 1 data transmission and publish data on the MQTT server, then it will turn to Sleep Mode immediately after transmission. It will then execute data uploads again by interval setting.

9. Go to SANLIEN web station to make sure the MQTT Lan upload is completed. If so, this indicates that the remote connection is OK.

10. Most of the time, VWdot will be in Sleep Mode to conserve power.

11. To use the test function, the user can press the “TEST” button on the PCB. The VWdot will upload 1 data transmission, then turn to Sleep Mode immediately after transmission. If errors are detected, the Green LED light will start blinking in many ways. Please refer to Chapter 9 for the “Error types and Error logging” description.
