Setting Up a Network in Delta Watch

This starts from scratch and ends with automated network processing

Contents
1. Create Project
2. Create Network
3. Create Baseline Epoch
4. Create Local Coordinate System
5. Configure and Calculate Adjustment
6. Define Point Baseline Coordinate
7. Assign Point Attributes
8. Create Point Groups
9. Automatic Network Setup

  1. Create Project
Click Administration then Projects then  (Add project) enter project name and click OK.
Archive directory: C:/Delta Archives  (recommended, make new folder)
    Click Apply.
  2. Create Network
Select the Active check box next to the new project name. Hit Apply then ok to move to that project.
Click Networks. Click (Add network) enter desired network name with "manual" at the end (eg. WestRailTrack2 manual)
    Adjustment Type: Free adjustment
    Calculation mode: Robust
Click Apply. You'll be notified that other modules will be closed. Click OK
  3. Create Baseline Epoch
We'll create an epoch in our manual network to aggregate data from the first several readings. The coordinates eventually derived from this epoch will define our point datum, or starting coordinates from which deltas will be calculated.

    Go to the Epochs section.
From the Networks dropdown select the network you just created
From the Time interval dropdown select All
    Click
Click (Add epoch) to create a new Epoch. Name it "baseline" and enter the date and Time stamp of first gka
Expand the line with the latest full time stamp by clicking the small plus sign, then click Total station data
    Click
Go to data directory (FTP from DeltaLink) select all gka files from the first day and Open
    click Apply

*Click if you have warnings "Measurement in second face missing"

  4. Create Coordinate System
We take allow Delta Watch to define an arbitrary coordinate system by generating the coordinates for a second point in our network. We get to select the coordinates of the first point. These directions are for a Local Coordinate System.

Click Coordinates in dropdown under timestamp. Click Approximate coordinates tab.
    Click (Create Local System)
Enter a Name particular to this project (eg. WestRailTrack2_cs)

If you're going to have multiple total stations with arbitrary coordinate systems, adjust the initial Easting, Northing, and Elevation by several thousand units, so they're distinct. It can also be helpful to separate the Northing, Easting, and Elevation so you can track them more easily data manipulation elsewhere in your pipeline

Click OK to add the coordinate system.
You will see the total station has the coordinates you chose, and one point has had arbitrary coordinates on which the rest of the coordinates will be based.
    Click (Calculate approximate coordinates)
    Click OK
    Click Apply

**Click to see instructions for a Geolocated Coordinate System

  5. Configure and Calculate Adjustment
We've not generated approximate coordinates, but not "Output coordinates". To get those, which we will write to the point definition, we need to perform an adjustment

Click back on the Epoch time stamp. Click Adjustment settings tab
Move all points from New points or Non-datum points to Fixed Point or Datum Points by clicking the first point, holding shift, and selecting the last point and pressing the left arrow between lists.
    Adjustment type: Free Adjustment
    Calculation mode: Robust
Click (Calculate adjustment) you should see "Adjustment successful"
    Click OK
You can check that the results of the horizontal and vertical adjustments in their respective tabs.
    Click Network sketch tab
You should see triangles for your points, not squares.
  6. Define Point Baseline Coordinates
Click Coordinates under timestamp. Click Output coordinates tab.
Highlight the first entry, hold shift and click the last entry to select the whole list
Right click and select Write coordinates in point definition.
Click OK. You will see points written popup. Click OK.
If the popup asks about overwriting points, check under Point and limit management to see what points may have the same name that is being overwritten
  7. Assign Point Attributes
Click Point and limit management. Click Points tab

By default all points are Reference points. Highlight all monitoring points and the total station, right click, and Set point type, select Monitoring Point and click OK
If a Local coordinate system was used, select all points, right click, Set coordinate reference system, and select the entry you created, click OK
Click Apply to save these changes.
  8. Create Point Groups
Point groups are the groupings by which exports are performed.

Go to the Point group tab and (Add point group).
Select both Reference Point and Monitoring Point, leave dimension as 3D and include "All" in the name (eg. WestRailTrack2 All). Click OK.

If there's more than one network in the project, you will need to Highlight and move points to ensure the group is narrowed down to just the network you have created.

Create another point group and add only Monitoring Point and include "Monitoring Points" in the name (eg. WestRailTrack2 Monitoring Points). Click OK.
    Click Apply
  9. Automatic Network Setup
Now that we have points with coordinate definitions and designations as reference or monitoring points, we can set up an automated network.

Go to Networks. Click (Add network) put in the network name with "Auto" at the end (eg. WestRailTrack2 auto) select Type: Automatic. Click OK.
Check the box beside Activate automatic loading.
Start time: select the date from which you want data processing to begin
Time interval per epoch: enter desired interval, which can be as frequent as readings are taken, or can group multiple readings into epochs.
Base Directory: Select folder where gka files arrive from ftp (C:/Delta Link or C:/Delta Link/Project Name)
    Adjustment type: Hierarchical adjustment
Calculation mode: Robust (you can select non-robust if you need to reduce computational load on the machine)
Minimum number of datum points: select a value no smaller than 3
Coordinate reference system: select local coordinate system made in step 4
Click Apply. You will be notified that other modules will be closed. Click OK.
Click Epochs. Select the auto network from the dropdown and for Time interval select all.

Allow Delta Watch a few minutes to begin the automatic loading

Expand a time stamp and check that the Network sketch is showing lines between your total station and prisms, and monitoring points are represented by circles and control points by triangles.

*Geolocated Coordinate System
Create a csv with the format (target name, northing, easting, elevation)
Check that the names match the point names exactly and the coordinates are in same unit as the coordinate system in System configuration.
Click(Import coordinates) Match fields in import wizard. Click OK. Check results, Apply.
Click Approximate coordinates tab. Click (Calculate approximate coordinates) Click Apply.

**If you have warnings "Measurement in second face missing"
Click
highlight the epoch timestamp and Click (Epoch configuration)
Check Accept measurements in one face only. Click OK. Click Apply.
Expand line with the latest timestamp
Click Total station data. Click Reload gka file(s). Click Apply
