Micromate Firmware Update Instructions (ARTICLE)

 

HOW TO UPGRADE USING THOR:

 

PREREQUISITES:

a.  Internet access is required.

b.  The communication between THOR and the Micromate unit must be setup and functioning correctly to load the firmware.

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Open THOR and click the Unit tab.

2. From the list of available monitoring units, select the serial number of the Micromate unit you would like to

update.

3. Click the Firmware Version icon. This will show you what Firmware Version is currently on your unit, and the

latest Firmware Version available.

4. Click the Update button.

5. Click the OK button.

The Micromate’s firmware will now be updated with the most recent available version. Once it has been completed,

the Micromate unit will automatically restart.

 

 

HOW TO UPGRADE USING A USB DRIVE:

 

PREREQUISITES:

  • All unit data needs to be backed up, including event files, compliance files and configuration information.
  • The Micromate unit being upgraded has at minimum a battery level of 50%. To verify the battery level, unplug the AC power adaptor and tap the battery icon in the top left corner of the      screen. Alternatively, the battery levels can be checked by going to the Maintenance Menu and selecting About.
  • Your PC is connected to the internet and has a USB port.
  • A USB drive with the following characteristics is required; USB 1.1, 2.0 or 3.0 compliant, a FAT16 or FAT32 file system and a minimum of 10 Mb of available space.

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Plug the USB drive into your computer and create a folder called “Instantel”.
  2. Go to www.instantel.com and download the latest firmware.
  3. Unzip the file and move the .BIN and .LDR files to the Instantel file you created on the USB drive.
  4. Remove the power supply from the Micromate and then plug the USB drive into the port on the Micromate.
  5. Turn off the Micromate.

 

Note: For step 6, you will have approximately three (3) seconds to respond before the unit starts its regular boot up sequence. Read steps 6 & 7 before executing them on the Micromate.  If the unit enters the regular boot mode before you can respond, go back to step 5.

 

  1. Turn on the Micromate.
  2. As the Micromate starts to boot up, you will see a line of text that says “Press Setup to load firmware from USB”. Once you see this text you will have three (3) seconds to press the Setup button.
  3. After your unit has checked that the firmware files are on the USB drive, you will see a line of text that says “Update firmware press right arrow”. Press the right arrow button now.
  4. Once the firmware has been loaded successfully, the unit will display the “Ready to Monitor” screen.  The Micromate’s firmware has now been updated with the new firmware.

 

POST INSTALLATION:

To confirm the firmware upgrade completed successfully, please ensure the following:

  • The Micromate firmware version should show the updated firmware version during the boot process.
  • The Micromate firmware version can also be verified by viewing the unit details in the About section of the Maintenance Menu or from Thor.

 

 

HOW TO UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE FILES IN BLASTWARE:

 

In order to upgrade the firmware on your Micromate using Blastware, the new Firmware Version must be

installed in Blastware. The following outlines instructions to install the latest Firmware Version in Blastware.

 

PREREQUISITES:

  • The version of Blastware is 10.74 or higher.
  • The new firmware bundle must be downloaded to the computer on which Blastware is installed.
  • The user has read-write access to the folder where Blastware has been installed. The default installation folder is “C:\Blastware10\”.

 

INSTALLATION NOTES:

  • This procedure does not require an upgrade or re-installation of Blastware, Auto Call Home or Blastware mail.
  • This procedure can be done while Auto Call Home and/or Blastware are running.
  • Only the Application firmware MICROMATE.BIN can be applied when using Blastware.

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Open the firmware bundle and confirm that MICROMATE.BIN is included. To download the firmware bundle, visit the Downloads section of www.Instantel.com/downloads.

2. Backup the existing firmware file(s) in the Blastware installation folder.  Copy “C:\Blastware10\MICROMATE.BIN” to “C:\Blastware10\MICROMATE_Original.BIN”.

3. Copy the new firmware file(s) from the updated firmware bundle and replace the firmware file(s) in the Blastware installation folder.  Copy the new MICROMATE.BIN to “C:\Blastware10\MICROMATE.BIN”.

 

The firmware files have now been updated in Blastware. To upgrade the firmware on a Micromate, please refer to the next section.

 

HOW TO UPGRADE USING BLASTWARE:

 

PREREQUISITES:

  • All unit data needs to be backed up, including event files, compliance files and configuration information.
  • The unit is connected to an external power supply and is charging, as indicated by the Charging Status LED on the unit.
  • The version of Blastware is 10.74 or higher.
  • The unit is successfully communicating with Blastware.
  • The firmware file is already loaded in Blastware. If this has not been completed, please follow the instructions outlined in the previous section.

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Follow the instructions located in Section 4.2.9 of the Blastware Operating Manual (part no. 714U0301) to perform the firmware upgrade. The Blastware Operating Manual can be found online at www.instantel.com/pdf/manuals/714U0301-Rev-22-Blastware-Operator-Manual.pdf.

2. After the upgrade has been completed and the unit is running the updated firmware, reset the Micromate using Blastware. Refer to Section 4.29 of the Blastware Operating Manual (part no. 714U0301) to perform the reset.  The Micromate’s firmware will now be updated with the most recent available version. Once it has been completed, the Micromate unit will automatically restart.

 

POST INSTALLATION:

To confirm the firmware upgrade completed successfully, please ensure the following:

  • § The Micromate firmware version should show the updated firmware version during the boot process.
  • § The Micromate firmware version can also be verified by viewing the unit details in the About section of the Maintenance Menu.
